With over 900 food moments on Burpple, foodforfoodies is slowly but surely becoming a tastemaker for his 700 followers. We had a quick chat with Chez to learn a little more about him and his love for food (we even learnt that he has a cat called Muffin- you know he’s a true foodie when his pet is named after a dessert!).
Hi foodforfoodies! Tell us more about yourself.
Hi! I’m Chez Blackstar, I live in the awesome city of San Francisco, California and I work in the medical field. I was born here but I grew up in the Philippines all my life and I finally migrated here almost 4 years ago. I try to visit my family back in Manila once a year.
From your journal, it looks like you travel a lot!
I have travelled a lot in my life, but the latest places I have been this year is Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Manila, Philippines. I wish I had more time & money to travel because I love to travel and experience culture, people and food, food and more food!
What are some of your strangest eating habits?
The strangest I think would be the fact I like to munch (occasionally lol) on packets of seasoning- like noodle seasonings! I haven’t revealed this before! I think it’s weird! But I like the intense flavors of seasonings without diluting it in soup, etc.
Haha that IS weird, but we understand. Describe a significant food memory from your childhood.
When I was in elementary, my grandma and I frequented a Japanese restaurant called Kimpura in Greenhills, San Juan, Philippines and she was testing my palate. She said if I can handle tuna sashimi (which was my very first raw meat), I could handle anything! I was cautious at first, not knowing what to expect of the pink lean tuna slice I had in front of me. I ate it with some soy sauce, my eyes gleamed, my lips smiled and I loved it! My grandma was surprised I loved it and I ended up finishing even her share of the tuna sashimi! Best food memory ever.
That’s a great memory Chez, it’s experiences like that which change your life! So, what do you like about Burpple?
I use Burpple because I have been searching for an app that caters specifically to foodies and our desire for good food. I find Burpple to be that app. It’s simple and straightforward. I love the community and I love watching it grow into a better app!
If you had to give anyone advice, what would it be?
The advice I can give to people about life would be- don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know what you can like and end up loving. Once you know what you like and don’t like, you can achieve being happier. And when you’re happier, the people around you would be happier too!
